Albert Okwuegbunam Jr, TE

This time last year, the Eagles made the surprising trade to acquire Albert Okwuegbunam Jr. from the Denver Broncos. It was a low-risk, high-reward type of flyer for a player who had intriguing size and physical attributes. However, Okwuegbunam never really fared in the offensive game plan, appearing in four games and only playing 57 snaps. He finished the year with zero catches.

Despite that, the Eagles made the unexpected decision to sign him to a one-year contract extension with the hopes that new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore could get more out of him.

Okwuegbunam could have a larger role if he can beat out Grant Calcaterra in the rotation. Unfortunately, however, his start to the season will be derailed with an injury. After undergoing a core muscle repair, he is projected to be out for six to eight weeks. He is starting the year on the IR list but will have a chance to make an impact in the second half of the season.

His path to doing so is wide open with the Eagles only carrying two tight ends into the season. Considering how small of a role he has had so far, not only in Philadelphia but also throughout his NFL career, that may be a tall order for the 26-year-old.
