Two months ahead of the MLB trade deadline, the Philadelphia Phillies already have clear positions of concern. One potential area of concern is the Phillies' outfield platoon. Brandon Marsh has shown life since returning from injury, but still isn't hitting above the Mendoza line, and cannot be relied on in clutch situations. Suggesting a change of scenery for the Philly outfielder is an obvious move that would help clear the way for an upgrade.
If Philly is serious about challenging the Los Angeles Dodgers, they cannot afford to simply sit back and hope. The franchise must aggressively attempt to improve, and this means finding an upgrade over the struggling Brandon Marsh.
Brandon Marsh is Overdue for a Change of Scenery in Potential Phillies Trade
While trading Marsh isn't going to net the Phillies an upgrade, it will clear the way for an impactful trade. It makes sense for both sides as fans grow increasingly frustrated with the veteran's inability to make simple adjustments at the plate. Dumping the rest of the contract and clearing the way for a new starting option is ideal.
Marsh first joined the Phillies in the 2022 season, having an instant impact. The veteran outfielder would follow this up with a surprisingly great 2023 season, seemingly stabilizing his role in the organization. However, Marsh took a noticeable step back in the 2024 season and has been abysmal since Opening Day this year.
While Philly will always appreciate the veteran's past accomplishments, it is time for an upgrade. Looking at the potential trade market, there are a number of potentially enticing fits. Chicago White Sox power hitter Luis Robert Jr. would be an amazing potential addition, solidifying Philly as a World Series fit.
No matter which direction they choose to go, it is obvious that moves must be made. This means carving out an additional roster spot, and the best path is moving away from Marsh. Considering the outfielder's history, it wouldn't be surprising to see a number of interested teams if that is the direction Philly chooses to go.
