Philadelphia Eagles fans were not enthusiastic about Nick Sirianni promoting Kevin Patullo to OC this offseason, as it reminded them all too well of the 2023 season when Brian Johnson took the OC job, which was a disaster after coming off a Super Bowl appearance in 2022.

Fast forward to Week 5 of the 2025 regular season, and Eagles fans aren’t happy with the job that Patullo is doing, which came to a head in Sunday’s four-point loss to the Denver Broncos. The Eagles leaned more on the pass as Jalen Hurts dropped back 38 times and ran the ball nine times with running backs, which is not a recipe for success.

The team also once again struggled to get in play calls on time, which is a direct reflection of Patullo. That said, Sirianni isn’t ready to place the blame all on his first-time OC, as he defended him following the Week 5 loss.

“No. There's so many things that go into that.. We're doing everything we can do to find solutions, not assign blame. We're a team and together. It's an us thing,” Sirianni said (h/t Eagles Nation on Twitter/X).

Nick Sirianni Is Pulling a Doug Pederson with Kevin Patullo's Continued Struggles

Some Eagles fans weren’t happy to read this answer by Sirianni, as they want him to hold Patullo accountable for the offense’s struggles, which shouldn’t be happening with the talent across the board. In fact, this is reminiscent of what happened during Doug Pederson’s tenure as the Eagles' head coach.

If Eagles fans remember how the Pederson era ended, he was loyal to Press Taylor, who at the time was Philadelphia’s passing game coordinator, while still doing quarterbacks coach duties. Taylor didn’t elevate Carson Wentz’s game, who struggled mightily in 2020, but Pederson still wanted to make Taylor the offensive coordinator.

However, the Eagles’ brass weren’t having it, which led to Pederson and the team parting ways, and the former Super Bowl-winning coach heading to Jacksonville.

Now, luckily for Sirianni and Patullo, Hurts’ play hasn’t regressed to start this season, but Philly’s offense still isn’t looking crisp. Since Patullo is Sirianni’s guy, we shouldn’t expect him to make any rash decision regarding the offensive coordinator’s future.

Nonetheless, if this offense doesn’t kick it into high gear and the team falls short this season, it will be on Sirianni’s shoulders for staying loyal to someone who clearly isn’t ready to be an OC at the NFL level.
