Nick Sirianni Makes First Comments on Eagles' Devin White Release
By Jovan Alford
After not playing in the first four weeks of the regular season, the Philadelphia Eagles made the shocking decision to release veteran linebacker Devin White on Tuesday.
The Eagles signed White to a one-year, $4 million contract this offseason to compete for one of the starting linebacker jobs. However, the 26-year-old linebacker lost out on the starting job to Nakobe Dean in training camp and couldn’t get on the field.
The veteran linebacker didn’t play in Week 1 due to an ankle injury, was a healthy scratch for Weeks 2 and 3, and was ruled out for Week 4 for personal reasons. That said, White not seeing the field was one of the more puzzling storylines through the first month.
On Wednesday, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni provided his thoughts on the veteran linebacker’s release.
According to Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports, Sirianni called White “a really great pro” and said, “I can’t say enough on how he handled a really disappointing situation.”
According to ESPN’s Tim McManus, the two sides (Eagles and White) came to a deal where the team would release the veteran defender before the trade deadline while agreeing to terms that could provide the Eagles potential financial savings.
Even though White could not find his footing with the Eagles, it would not be surprising to see him latch on with another team over the next few weeks. The former first-round pick is looking to prove he can be a Pro Bowl-caliber player and make an impact after not playing a single snap with the Eagles.
