Nick Sirianni Provides Big Eagles Kicker Update After Playoff Misses
The Philadelphia Eagles are preparing for the NFC Championship Game against the Washington Commanders. With one game left until the Super Bowl, the margin for error is razor-thin.
Going up against a division rival makes things more critical. These teams split the season series 1-1 and they know what the other likes to do. Head coach Nick Sirianni revealed that quarterback Jalen Hurts is expected to be under center for this contest, which is terrific news.
During the same 94 WIP radio appearance, Sirianni expressed his faith in kicker Jake Elliott.
Eagles News: Nick Sirianni Has Confidence in Jake Elliott
Sirianni said, "Yes, for sure. He's 6-for-6 in the playoffs on field goals in adverse conditions. I got a lot of faith in Jake and I know he's clutch when we need him to be clutch."
He also added that he doesn't lack any confidence in the 29-year-old.
"No, I think Jake is pretty solid. To see a guy miss a kick and then come back—I think it shows the exact opposite actually. To see a guy miss a kick and then come back under those circumstances and the conditions—again, we'll never use the conditions as an excuse. But the conditions were the conditions. It's going to make it more difficult for any kicker to kick the ball. Again, like I said, it shows just the opposite. He misses an extra point early in the game and then nails three field goals. "

The questions regarding Elliott are justified. During the postseason, the Memphis product is 6-of-6 on field goal attempts but has gone 2-of-5 on extra points. During the regular season, he had some troubles.
Elliott was 28-of-36 on field goal attempts, including a putrid 1-of-7 from 50-plus yards away. At this point of the season, you need everyone to be at the top of their game. Elliott has shown some signs of trouble throughout the year but he's been given the benefit of the doubt.
Across 13 career playoff games, Elliot is 22-of-22 on field goal attempts and 25-of-30 on extra point attempts, with three misses coming this year. He's earned the right to get some grace and Sirianni is giving it to him.
