In the weeks before the start of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles made a small but interesting roster move on the offensive side of the ball.
The Eagles signed former second-round pick wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. on a one-year deal. The move was surprising, given the Eagles already have a full WR room with AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson, Ainias Smith, and Johnny Wilson Jr.
However, there’s nothing wrong with bringing in extra competition at the receiver spot. Marshall, who has struggled to find his footing in the NFL, will look to win a job on the 53-man roster this summer.
But before he takes the practice field, the former Carolina Panthers wide receiver will be rocking a new number with the Eagles. According to a Twitter post from Anthony DiBona of Philly Sports Network, Marshall will wear No. 46 with the Eagles.
Terrace Marshall Jr. being issued #46 is quite a wake-up call. Yikes! 🤮

Kylen Granson (#83) and Harrison Bryant (#85) landed some great numbers at TE though.
Ben VanSumeren switching to #43 was reported earlier this month. https://t.co/97KvoWhKBq
No. 46 for a wide receiver isn’t an aesthetically pleasing jersey number. The last Eagles player to wear No. 46 was defensive back Tariq Castro-Fields.

Castro-Fields spent part of the 2024 season with the Eagles and was signed to a futures deal in February after Philadelphia won the Super Bowl. Castro-Fields is still on the Eagles’ roster, so it will be interesting to see if his number will change sometime this offseason.
As for Marshall, he has a chance to compete for a spot on the 53-man roster after getting cut by the Carolina Panthers before the 2024 regular season began. Marshall joined the San Francisco 49ers’ practice squad a couple of days later, but was released in mid-October.
After getting cut by the 49ers, the former Panthers playmaker was signed by the Las Vegas Raiders a week later. Marshall didn’t make a huge impact in his short stint with the Raiders (three receptions for 41 yards).
That said, the Eagles are taking a flier on Marshall and hoping he reverts to his 2022 form, where he averaged 17.5 yards per catch. If Marshall makes a couple of splash plays in camp, he’ll definitely have a different number.
