The Philadelphia Eagles' front office did its best to fine-tune their roster during the offseason to help the franchise make a run at repeating as Super Bowl champions after its dominant win over the Kansas City Chiefs to close out the 2024 campaign.
One of the ways that Howie Roseman attempted to do that was by trading for depth pieces to fortify the team's two-deep. Unfortunately, that plan hasn't come to fruition as the front office had hoped as we approach the midway point of the preseason.
The Eagles' return in the C.J. Gardner-Johnson trade, offensive lineman Kenyon Green, is expected to miss the remainder of the preseason with a shoulder injury. If that wasn't bad enough, a member of the secondary has had a tough go of it of late in Philadelphia. That continued on Wednesday during the team's joint practice with the Cleveland Browns, as, according to Brooks Kubena of The Athletic, third-year cornerback Jakorian Bennett turned in a poor performance.
Not a good practice in team drills so far for Jakorian Bennett.

Gage Larvadain got ahead of him on a crosser for a touchdown. Jerry Jeudy beat him deep along the left sideline. Then Bennett was flagged for pass interference against Kisean Johnson over the middle.
Eagles Trade Addition Jakorian Bennett Stumbles After Promising Start
Jakorian Bennett is listed as the primary backup to Quinyon Mitchell on the Eagles' depth chart. If the former Oakland Raiders draft pick wants to stay in that position, he needs to turn things around. After a rather horrendous showing against the Browns' offense, it would be in Bennett's best interests to prove he is the type of talent that Philadelphia thought he was upon trading for him earlier this month.
This past season, Bennett appeared in 10 games for the Raiders, starting seven of them. Receivers being guarded by the former Maryland Terrapins standout had a completion rate of 52.3%. Given the role he would be stepping into, that isn't a major issue facing Bennett at this time. What he must address, though, is why he is being beaten down the field like he was during Wednesday's joint practice when he runs a 4.3 40-yard dash.
The good news is that Bennett won't have to wait very long to make amends for his lack of production on Wednesday. The Eagles and Browns will be back at it on Thursday and will meet in a preseason game on Saturday. That provides the former fourth-round pick to prove his worth to the team's coaching staff and fans.
