The Philadelphia Eagles won a Super Bowl last year and a big reason why was the reclamation project of Mekhi Becton. A former top-ten pick by the New York Jets, the Eagles revived his career by moving him from tackle to guard and it helped Philadelphia own one of the most potent rushing attacks in the league while protecting quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Becton is gone after signing with the Los Angeles Chargers this offseason. But Eagles fans are left to wonder who is next.
While the Eagles didn’t make a lot of additions this offseason, they’ve still searched for developmental projects and may have found a keeper during OTAs and minicamp.
New Eagles WR Terrace Marshall Carries Momentum Into Training Camp
The Eagles made a surprising move when they signed Terrace Marshall this offseason. A former second-round pick by the Carolina Panthers in the 2021 NFL Draft, Marshall was a disappointment, catching 64 passes for 767 yards and a touchdown in his first three seasons.
A change of scenery didn’t provide much help as he caught three passes for 41 scoreless yards while bouncing between the practice squads of the San Francisco 49ers and Las Vegas Raiders. But the Eagles still took a chance on him to add depth to a group highlighted by starters A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Jahan Dotson.
That gamble seems to have paid off early as Martin Frank of the Delaware News Journal declared the LSU product to be the most impressive receiver during this year’s OTA workouts and minicamp.
“We know that the top three wide receivers will be A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Jahan Dotson,” Frank wrote. “But Marshall, a 2021 second-round pick of the Panthers who spent last season bouncing around the 49ers and Raiders practice squads has been perhaps the most impressive wide receiver so far.”
Smith also noted Marshall’s offseason, telling The Athletic’s Brooks Kubena that his 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame and “versatility” would play well in the Eagles’ search for a No. 4 receiver and Kubena noted that Marshall made several plays during 11-on-11 drills with the first team offense during last month’s minicamp.
With the top three spots locked in, Marshall has a big opportunity competing against Ainias Smith and Johnny Wilson for the final roster spots on the team. The good news is that Marshall has already made a strong case to grab that job when training camp begins later this month and could become the Eagles’ latest reclamation project.
