The Philadelphia Eagles have done an incredible job in the 2025 offseason, retaining key pieces of a championship team while bringing in possible surprise contributors. It is hard to argue against Philly maintaining its position as NFC favorites based on what has been a stellar offseason.
One underrated piece of this is the addition of former New England Patriots pass rusher Josh Uche. While some might argue that another pass rusher is the last thing the Eagles need, this is the wrong perspective. What fueled Philly's run to the Super Bowl was the ability to easily rotate incredible defensive options.
As great as Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley might've been throughout the season and playoff run, Philly doesn't accomplish the ultimate goal without its stellar pass-rushing unit. While it has been retooled a bit, the most important pieces are set to return along with the addition of notable depth options. This includes Uche, who had an incredible 2022 season before underwhelming in each of the following years. Still, there is reason to believe the best version of the pass rusher can still be found in a superior situation.
The Eagles Might've Found the Steal of the Offseason in Josh Uche
Uche has never played with a defensive front with close to the same level of talent as Philly will offer. While Uche ended last season with the Kansas City Chiefs, it is easy to make the argument that he didn't have time to get up to speed in the new system. With a full offseason with the Eagles, this isn't going to be an issue for a player who is going to be a situational edge rusher.
This speaks to the incredible depth the Eagles have put together and why Uche was willing to sign on for a deal that is worth less than $2-million. Uche understands that with Philly, he will have a chance to contend for another title and be on a defensive line where he is often the afterthought as a pass rusher. It is a rare opportunity that could allow the veteran to cash in next offseason.
Add in the fact that Uche is already impressing early this summer, and it is easy to make an argument that this deal will be among the offseason's biggest steals. No question, this was a win for Philly and a great continuation of a strong 2025 offseason.
