Philadelphia Eagles fans have every reason to be concerned by an offense that would've greatly benefited from hiring new Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. It seems that Philly would be a more enticing job for McDaniel, having won the 2024 Super Bowl and having the majority of its offensive core intact from that run. Instead, McDaniel landed in Los Angeles and has left Eagles fans every reason to believe the team made a mistake failing to land the proven creative playcaller.

A big piece of this was what McDaniel said about his new quarterback, Justin Herbert, in the introductory presser, via ESPN's Kris Rhim. McDaniel spoke about how much the Chargers had been putting on the signal caller's shoulders and what the expectations for the offense needed to be moving forward.

""I think not relying too heavily on Justin's ability to do above and beyond I think is critical. ... That'll be one of the first things that we'll try to do is take a little off his plate.""

It is hard for Eagles fans not to wish that McDaniel was talking about Jalen Hurts in the quote above. Hurts was consistently asked to elevate predictable play-calling and a plodding run game, often leaving the franchise facing third-and-long or in obvious passing situations. Hurts may earn some heat for his level of play, but it was all set up by a failed play caller, who asked his quarterback to do far too much.

Eagles Made Obvious Mistake Failing to Land New Chargers OC Mike McDaniel

The first thing that McDaniel is going to do in Los Angeles is breathe life into the run game and take pressure off Herbert. The playcaller is going to accomplish this without having any obvious rushing option with the upside of Saquon Barkley. It is impossible not to be a bit frustrated with Philadelphia's inability to bring in a proven option or to land what appears to be a perfect fit in McDaniel.

It is fair to wonder whether the Eagles' ongoing drama is scaring away qualified coaches, with there being no other viable explanation. Howie Roseman is a proven GM, and Nick Sirianni remains an underrated winner during his tenure in Philadelphia. Add in the fact that the roster is stocked with offensive talent, and the only reasonable conclusion is that coaches are shying away from the assignment due to the never-ending drama surrounding the roster.

No matter the reason, it is hard to believe McDaniel wouldn't have considered the Eagles heavily due to the winnable division and rostered talent. Now, with the available talent pool quickly shrinking, Philadelphia is quickly reaching concerning territory, as fans can only helplessly watch other teams make winning moves.
