The Philadelphia Eagles are the defending champions of the NFL, and that means opposing players and fans will jump at every opportunity to try and knock them down a peg, no matter how ridiculous the claim itself may be.
Well, we have a new contender for the wildest offseason take regarding the champions, and it comes from the likely No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Former Miami Hurricanes standout Cam Ward took quite the stance when suggesting that All-Pro wide receiver AJ Brown doesn't compare to a player currently on the Tennessee Titans roster, the franchise expected to select Ward with the top pick.
“AJ Brown’s a dog, but he’s not Calvin Ridley,” Ward said while streaming himself playing video games.
Look, it is easy to understand that Ward expects to be a Titan in one week's time and that he should be saying as many positive things about the veterans he could very well be throwing the ball to later this year. He is likely going to be the new leader of Tennessee's offensive attack, and part of his job is to instill confidence in the rest of the players in the huddle.
The fact that Brown, the same player whom the Titans stunningly decided to trade away to Philadelphia, is the player in question here makes Ward's words that much more outrageous. Calvin Ridley is a fine player who has enjoyed a solid career, but in no way, shape, or form does he compare to all of the options that Brown provides Philadelphia's offense.
In fact, there isn't a single statistic relating to receptions, touchdowns, or receiving yards where Ridley ranks ahead of Brown for his career, which only adds to the absurdity of Ward's claim.
It will be a memorable week for Ward for a number of reasons as he moves closer to beginning his professional career with each passing day. Perhaps it would be beneficial for his team to get in his ear about pumping the brakes when it comes to suggesting a wideout on one of the worst teams in the NFL is on the same level as AJ Brown.
