Former first-round pick and once-promising prospect Lewis Cine had hopes of beginning the 2025 campaign with the Philadelphia Eagles. He had signed with the Eagles off the Bills' practice squad back in January as a depth piece ahead of the Wild Card matchup. He never ended up suiting up for the Eagles during the Super Bowl run, but was technically a part of the team that lifted the Lombardi Trophy.

Just when he thought he could make the Eagles' 53-man roster this season, misfortune struck again. Cine, whose career has been defined by injuries after breaking his leg as a rookie after three games, made an impressive diving interception in the preseason finale against the Jets. He unfortunately also suffered an injury and was the first Eagle to be waived ahead of the roster cutdown deadline.

Lewis Cine Is Looking to Sign with New NFL Team After Week 5

One and a half months later, Cine is looking to make his NFL comeback. The former Georgia star worked out with the Indianapolis Colts on Monday, according to NFL insider Ari Meirov. Dealing with multiple injuries on the secondary, the Colts reportedly brought in Cine and cornerback Kendall Fuller. No deal has materialized so far, but an AFC contender with serious postseason aspirations taking a look at Cine is certainly a good sign for the 26-year-old defensive back.

Former Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen has done an impressive job in Indianapolis as the head coach, leading the Colts to a 4-1 record and sitting at the top of the AFC South. The offense with Daniel Jones under center has understandably received most of the attention, but the defense has also been punching above its weight. They have allowed the third-fewest points of any team in the NFL through five weeks.

The Colts currently have Nick Cross and Cam Bynum starting at safety, with Trey Washington and Rodney Thomas serving as backups. If Cine were to be brought on, he would likely be signed to the practice squad before getting a chance on the active roster. Fuller, as a veteran cornerback with extensive experience, has a better chance of getting signed due to injuries in the cornerback rotation in Indianapolis.

Now that the former Eagle is healthy, he will continue to have visits and workouts with teams in desperate need of safety depth. As injuries begin to pile up during the grueling NFL season, Cine will get opportunities. Four years into his career, Cine is still trying to establish himself. Whether he can do it remains to be seen.
