Coming out of the 2026 NFL Draft, if there is one clear area the Philadelphia Eagles could use improved depth, it is rushing the passer. Recent success has led to the franchise seeing several key contributors stolen in free agency.
Having said that, the Eagles have a limited budget with only $15.3 million in projected open cap space, according to Spotrac. This all but demands that any additional signings be of the bargain variety. Leading us to look at veteran free agent Leonard Floyd, who is coming off a solid season with Atlanta.
Floyd finished the 2025 season with 4.0 sacks and a solid 36 pressures, per Pro Football Focus, showing the clear value in adding the aging linebacker. There is also the fact that when Floyd was paired with Aaron Donald on the Los Angeles Rams, the edge rusher nearly averaged double-digit sacks per season. It isn't out of the realm of possibility that working with the talent of Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis on the inside, Floyd sees another leap in production.
However, even if Floyd maintains the level of performance he offered the Falcons in the 2025 season, there is still value in the addition. Philly has very little depth when it comes to rushing the quarterback. Signing the veteran helps improve a final weakness after what has been a solid 2026 offseason and gives Floyd a chance to compete for a Super Bowl late in his career.
Eagles Shouldn't Hesitate to Sign Leonard Floyd After 2026 NFL Draft
Floyd has a career total of 70.0 sacks and has been a productive option at every stop he's made in the NFL. While the numbers have differed between being a solid rotational option and a clear starter, the Eagles have the defensive depth chart to allow Floyd to play his way into a fitting role. This can likely be done at a low cost as well, thanks to the names remaining on the market.
With Cam Jordan and Joey Bosa still searching for new landing spots, both players have greater name recognition and higher sack production. This makes it clear that Floyd will likely need to accept a low-dollar deal without the benefit of high guarantees.
Due to the team's limited cap space, this is exactly the market the Eagles should be scouring. The fact that Philadelphia is clearly among the NFC's top contenders should make any lower-dollar deal easier to swallow.
Floyd would have a chance to be part of an incredibly talented Philly defense, and perhaps even cash in on free agency one last time if the veteran goes on one final run. Regardless, the fit is clear, and the team should explore signing over the next few days of the offseason.
