23 total touchdowns, 14 turnovers, and a 10-7 record. 32 touchdowns, 9 turnovers, and a 14-3 record. If you asked any rational football fan which of these statlines they’d like more from their quarterback, the second one would be almost unanimous. But if you asked NBC Sports’ Chris Simms, it’s quarterback No. 1 all day.
The first statline belongs to Houston’s C.J. Stroud, the second is our Super Bowl MVP, Jalen Hurts. This Hurts disrespect from Simms is only the latest in his smear campaign of the Eagles' QB. While he had both ranked as “second-tier quarterbacks”, Simms went out of his way to ensure everyone knew he had C.J. over Jalen.
“Jalen Hurts won the Super Bowl and everybody just forgot about the first 10 weeks before that we were like ‘Wait, the quarterback and the passing game is the issue’," Sims said. "So how can you be one of the best quarterbacks in the game?”
I’m not too sure how, Chris, maybe going on one of the most dominant postseason runs in NFL history, dismantling the most impressive three-year stretch in league history on the way and capping it off with a Super Bowl MVP, would be a great way to prove you’re one of the best quarterbacks in the game?
Widely considered one of the loudest analysts in the football landscape, it is important to remember that while Simms is hated by most football fans, he is a much better analyst than he ever was a quarterback. Jalen Hurts' 10 total touchdowns during the Super Bowl run (four games, sitting out the 4th quarter twice) would equal Simms' highest of his career (11 games).
You’ll never hear it from Jalen, but you know he sees all of this criticism. As a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, we expect nothing less than for him to use this as motivation to push the Eagles to back-to-back Super Bowl titles.
