One of the underrated questions facing the Philadelphia Eagles after their frustrating playoff exit is the future of guard Landon Dickerson. The veteran is coming off a season that was defined by regression and injuries, which put his status consistently into question. Coming off the season-ending loss to the Niners, Dickerson did not have much to say about the injury issues that plagued him throughout the year, via NBC Sports Philadelphia's Dave Zangaro.

"Landon Dickerson didn’t get into all the injuries he dealt with this year, other than to say 'a lot,'" Zangaro shared, via X. "He said he kept playing through them because he didn’t want to let the team down. Doesn’t know if he’ll need offseason surgery."

As if Dickerson's 2025 season wasn't frustrating enough, the possibility of offseason surgery would only put his 2026 status into question. This isn't ideal, considering Philadelphia cannot escape the contract and save cap space. The only exception would be trading the guard, as that would open $4 million in cap space, while costing the franchise $5 million in dead space, but that could be a tough sell given his health and 2025 production.

Cutting Dickerson outright isn't an option, considering it will be cheaper to have the veteran on the roster than to release him. This leaves Philly fans reduced to either considering trade possibilities or hoping that the 2026 season proves to be a different story. While that is always a possibility, it isn't common for players to get healthier as they age, and Dickerson was viewed as injury-prone coming out of college.

Eagles Have Clear Landon Dickerson Concerns Entering 2026 Offseason

Not knowing whether Dickerson will need surgery is a red flag that will impact Philly's offseason moves at the position. It makes it far more important to be aggressive in finding depth that might be forced into action. Regardless of whether Dickerson will be ready for the start of next season, this is the case based on the fact that the guard is coming off a season where he was consistently out of the lineup, and Philadelphia's lack of proven depth pieces was exposed.

Dickerson should be credited for having a team-first mentality and being willing to fight through injuries. The lineman was more interested in fighting for wins to help his team than in taking time to heal and get healthy. This is admirable, but in a brutal business, it raises obvious questions as to your future durability and how soon Philadelphia's front office might need to look in another direction.

This will be especially true if Dickerson returns healthy next season but continues to struggle. It would be a signal that it is time to turn the page and explore a trade or a roster cut heading into the 2027 season when the potential cap hit becomes easier to stomach.

All told, Dickerson allowed 32 pressures, five sacks, and five penalties despite being in and out of the lineup. This puts the Eagles on an offseason path full of questions that won't have answers until the guard can prove he's healthy to start the 2026 campaign.
