No matter how the 2025 season ends, it would be a surprise if the Philadelphia Eagles don't opt to make a change at offensive coordinator. The frustration has been consistent for a unit that simply fails to show up for large portions of games. This should never be the case with the current level of talent. Adding to the frustration is the predictable runs and lack of creativity in the pass game, all setting up the potential exit of offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo. This opens up the possibility of a surprise addition with the Washington Commanders parting ways with Kliff Kingsbury.
Philly Sports Network's Cory Nidoh pointed out that Kingsbury was interviewed by the Eagles back in 2024 before the team decided to go with Kellen Moore. Now, Philly has a chance to revisit this decision and bring in a coordinator who is clearly far better equipped to handle the Eagles' offense than Patullo. This is evidenced by a 2024 season with the Commanders, where Kingsbury's unit was incredibly explosive, averaging 28.8 points per game, giving Washington the 6th best offense in the league.
Kingsbury accomplished this with a rookie quarterback in Jayden Daniels and a rushing attack that lacked a star presence. It is fair to wonder how much better the play caller might be when working with Philadelphia's incredibly talented offensive roster. It is important to note here as well that Kingsbury does have head coach experience and could generate offseason interest for that role. NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reported that Kingsbury is expected to interview with the Giants and Titans. However, if the coach doesn't find a landing spot as the head option, it is impossible to see a better landing spot than Philadelphia.
Eagles Already Have Perfect Kevin Patullo Replacement After Kliff Kingsbury Firing
While the 2025 Washington offense wasn't nearly as explosive and only averaged 20.9 points per game, this was due to Jayden Daniels only playing seven games. This left Kingsbury attempting to run a cohesive offense with Marcus Mariota and Josh Johnson as his starting quarterbacks. It isn't an ideal situation and shouldn't have been held against an OC that proved what he was capable of accomplishing a season before.
For the Eagles, this is a chance not only to fix their own offensive frustrations but to do so at the expense of a division rival. Giving Kingsbury the chance to play his former team twice a year while having a far more talented group of playmakers works to the advantage of both the coach and his new franchise.
Philadelphia needs Kingsbury's proven creativity to stop a frustrating decline that defined much of the 2025 season. The only exception will be if Patullo is able to fuel another Philly Super Bowl run that is defined by an explosive offense. Even if the Eagles were to win the Super Bowl with their current style of play, no one is arguing against making a chance and parting ways with Patullo.
There is simply far too much offensive talent for the current struggles to continue to be ignored. Kingsbury presents a surprising solution that the franchise is familiar with, offering clear upside and a great chance to rediscover past offensive dominance.
