The Philadelphia Eagles have arrived in New Orleans, Louisiana, for Super Bowl 59 and will begin preparing for their biggest game of the season against the back-to-back champion Kansas City Chiefs.

The Eagles head into Super Bowl 59 in good health, easing worries regarding the injuries to starting offensive linemen Cam Jurgens and Landon Dickerson, both of whom were hurt during the NFC title game.

However, the Eagles did suffer one significant injury in the title game and that was to running back Kenneth Gainwell. Gainwell sustained a concussion to kick off the second half and was ruled out for the rest of the game.

The former fifth-round pick has notable roles on offense and special teams (kick return duties), so the Eagles cannot afford for him to miss the Super Bowl. That said, there was news to report on Gainwell during Super Bowl Opening Night on Monday.

Kenny Gainwell Still in Concussion Protocol To Start Super Bowl Week

According to Jimmy Kempski of the Philly Voice, the veteran running back said he’s still in the concussion protocol. However, as Kempksi points out, Gainwell was at the Superdome; so he assumes the Eagles’ RB2 is fine.

Nonetheless, Gainwell's attendance at media day is a good sign of his availability for the Super Bowl. The Eagles return to practice this week after practicing for a few days in Philadelphia, so we should get some more information about his day-to-day status.

If you are an Eagles fan, you hope that Gainwell is good to go as he helps on kick return duties and is a solid change-of-pace option for Barkley. This season, the fourth-year running back has 406 total yards from scrimmage and a rushing touchdown. He’s also averaging 25.3 yards per kick return, which is a career-high.

When the Eagles last played the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, Gainwell had 41 total yards on 11 touches.
