Johnny Mundt Isn’t the Only Jaguar the Eagles Could Sign in Free Agency

The NFL offseason is picking up steam now that free agency is underway.

On Tuesday, the Philadelphia Eagles addressed a major issue by signing former Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Johnny Mundt to a one-year deal. As a blocking tight end, Mundt’s receiving numbers don't jump off the page. But his skills as a physical, strong mover off the line of scrimmage should get Eagles fans excited for what he can add to Philadelphia’s already strong running game.

Mundt also has experience with Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, as the two were teammates on the Los Angeles Rams in 2018. This makes the Mundt deal make even more sense, as now Mannion will add a former teammate to his repertoire when calling plays for Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley.

Free agency officially kicked off on Wednesday; however, most free agents found their homes on Monday when the legal tampering period opened. That being said, of all the top-tier free agents still left on the board for Eagles general manager Howie Roseman to sign, Mundt may find himself reunited with another former teammate of his.

Eagles Could Target Jaguars Free-Agent WR Dyami Brown

Although addressing the TE room was always one of the Eagles' top offseason priorities, their wide receiver situation could also use some love. It's been a while since Philadelphia had a reliable WR3 behind DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown, which is a void that former Jaguars wideout Dyami Brown could fill.

Drafted out of North Carolina in the 2021 NFL draft, Brown has struggled to really get the ball rolling, recording only 1,011 yards and five touchdowns on 79 catches in 77 career games. Although he hasn’t had the most illustrious start to his young career, the former Washington Commanders draft pick would be an interesting prospect for the Eagles.

Brown had to wait until his second season for his first career touchdown, and he has never cracked more than 300 receiving yards in a single season. However, what impresses front offices about Brown is his separation-creating speed.

At the combine, Brown recorded a 4.44 40-yard dash time, and that shouldn’t taper off as the 26-year-old WR approaches his physical prime. He won't be turning 27 until November, giving the Eagles someone who could stick around for a while.

Roseman should also be happy to add to a wide receiver room that is currently in limbo as of March. With the status of Brown’s future in Philadelphia up in the air, adding a quick, young body would do nothing but take pressure off of Hurts and Mannion’s offense. Even if he only tallies 400-500 yards and a couple of touchdowns, that's still a plus.

Throw in the fact that a signing wouldn't break the bank — Spotrac lists his market value at $2.1 million — and it's easy to see why the Eagles might want Brown to be the next ex-Jaguar to join their roster.
