You wouldn't think the Philadelphia Eagles are 5-2 based on all the noise that has come from the building through the first seven weeks of the season.
The majority of it has been around the inconsistent passing offense and star receiver A.J. Brown's unhappiness. It continued when Brown posted on Instagram, with the caption, "Using me but not using me." That came after he posted four catches for 121 receiving yards and two touchdowns against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 7.
While news continues to come out of Philadelphia, The Athletic's Dianna Russini was present at the league's fall meetings and reported on what she heard from owners around the league. Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie was asked what he would do if Brown asked for a trade. Lurie didn't back away and stated they will do whatever's in the best interest of the Eagles team as a whole.
"We do what’s best for the team. We don’t even consider it seriously unless it’s best for the Eagles. We will always do what gives us the best chance of winning big. Everything else is secondary,” Lurie said.
Jeffrey Lurie Isn’t Backing Away from a Possible Aj Brown Trade
While the owner didn't come out and say the team plans to move off Brown but he made it clear, if they feel the situation doesn't help the team, they would move on from Brown for the right price.
Lurie was asked why the team has so much internal conflict, and he responded, "It’s not conflict. It’s intensity. The players respect it. I like intensity. The players are intense. Howie’s intense, I’m intense, the coach is intense. Every week, every situation, we approach it with intensity. We encourage it. We want different personalities."
It sounds like Lurie is open to having different voices in the room, but there will always be a point when enough is enough.
Everyone in the league knows how dynamic and explosive Brown is. In 54 career games in Philadelphia, he has logged 290 receptions for 4,426 receiving yards and 28 touchdowns. He's led the team in receiving yards for the last three years, but it doesn't matter. The Eagles are a run-first team, so there are times when the passing attack becomes stagnant.
The Ole Miss product wants the ball in his hands as much as possible, but who knows how much that'll happen within this system. Teams around the league are interested in Brown but have been told he isn't available.
How long Philadelphia continues saying that remains to be seen.
