The Philadelphia Eagles are 2-0 on the season after doing the impossible of going into Arrowhead and defeating the Kansas City Chiefs. It seems that Philly is now firmly in Kansas City's head, having beaten the franchise each of the last three meetings. Something that certainly didn't escape Jalen Hurts as the quarterback took knees to put the finishing touches on another impressive win. However, a certain notable Kansas City defender wasn't content to simply take the loss and head home
NFL Network's Mike Garafolo tweeted out the viral moment where Chris Jones can clearly be heard talking to Hurts. The defender is poking at the quarterback's lack of yardage, pointing to the lack of production as some sort of consolation prize. However, the Eagles' star quarterback didn't miss a beat, pointing out that it was Philly that would be walking away with the win. It was the perfect response for a quarterback who has again and again proven that he doesn't care about numbers, but does whatever it takes to find a way to win.
Eagles Star QB Jalen Hurts Has Perfect Comeback for Chris Jones Barb
Hurts is now 3-0 against the Chiefs over the last two seasons, including a Super Bowl win where the quarterback put up elite numbers. Why Philly has such a high level of belief in the quarterback is due to a consistent willingness to die to personal numbers or accomplishments. If Hurts needs to hand the ball off 30 times or if the starter needs to go out and throw for 300 yards, whatever it takes to win will be the focus of the veteran.
Two games into the season, and this is on full display with the season-opening win over Dallas being a great showing of Hurts' ability to control the game with his legs. Week 2 was all about Saquon Barkley and a physical Philly defense that bullied Patrick Mahomes, making life impossible for the KC offense. All adding up to a Philly road in what appeared to be the most difficult game on the schedule heading into the season.
With this in mind, Jones' choice of words really just points to the fact that the Eagles have a proven winner. An unselfish player who is consistently willing to do whatever it takes to push his roster to a win. Already this has netted the Eagles two NFC titles and a Super Bowl win. It seems that this team now appears destined to defend its title.
For Jones, the defender's frustration is understandable as the Chiefs fall to 0-2 and the star continues to be asked to do the heavy lifting on the inside. Unlike Jalen Carter, the franchise player hasn't been given the needed support to consistently make plays. For an aging star, this likely has resulted in an incredible level of frustration.
This resulted in some harmless smack talk that Hurts was able to laugh off as his Eagles again beat the dynastic Chiefs, leaving some to wonder if Philly has perhaps broken the once unshakeable Kansas City Chiefs.
