Jalen Hurts Injury Update is Bad News for Eagles vs. Cowboys
By Jovan Alford
The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off a tough road loss to the Washington Commanders last week. The Eagles saw their 10-game winning streak get snapped and star quarterback Jalen Hurts banged up.
Hurts suffered a concussion in the first quarter against the Commanders, which led to backup QB Kenny Pickett coming into the game. Pickett played okay, completing 14-of-24 passes for 143 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
However, Eagles fans hope Hurts could play on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, especially since Philly needs to win to clinch the NFC East title. But based on the latest comments from head coach Nick Sirianni, the chances of Hurts playing don’t look good.
Eagles News: Jalen Hurts Still in the Concussion Protocol
According to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Sirianni offered no update on the star QB Thursday, except that he’s still in the concussion protocol.
With the Eagles only having one more day of practice, it’s not a good sign that Hurts is still in the protocol. If Hurts can’t go, Pickett will likely get the start against Dallas, who is dealing with a rib injury.
However, he was listed on the team’s injury report on Christmas as a limited participant, which was more of an estimation since the Eagles didn’t practice.
The Eagles also signed quarterback Ian Book to the practice squad on Thursday after bringing him in for a visit on Wednesday, which gives another clue about Hurts’ health. If Pickett gets the start on Sunday, Tanner McKee will be the QB2, and Book gets promoted from the practice squad as the Eagles’ QB3 (emergency).
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Hurts’ injury, the Eagles are still 7.5-point home favorites over the Cowboys on FanDuel Sportsbook. Philly will need Pickett to take shots down the field and be aggressive as the Cowboys’ defense will look to stack the box to slow down star running back Saquon Barkley.
If the Eagles' passing game cannot hit on any explosive plays, it will be a long game against a Dallas squad looking to play spoiler.
