Jalen Hurts Breaks Silence on Concussion Just Before Packers Matchup
The Philadelphia Eagles are preparing for a Wild Card showdown against the seventh-seed Green Bay Packers. The Eagles finished the season with a 14-3 record, clinching them the second seed in the conference.
The Eagles finished the regular season on a two-game win streak, defeating the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants. In those matchups, Kenny Pickett and Tanner McKee secured the victories. Jalen Hurts was sidelined with a concussion that he suffered in Week 16 against the Washington Commanders.
Some fans were worried about Hurts' availability when the team re-signed Ian Book to their practice squad, but that was put to bed on Friday. Nick Sirianni announced that Hurts cleared concussion protocol and will play against the Packers.
After Friday's practice, Hurts spoke for the first time since landing in the protocol.
Jalen Hurts Spoke to Media Following Friday’s Practice
Hurts said, "Everything's fine," when asked how he was feeling. The Oklahoma product revealed that he never had a concussion before, and the biggest challenge was being out of routine.
Since taking over as the starter in 2021, the Eagles have made the playoffs for four straight seasons. The Eagles are Super Bowl contenders with Hurts under center.
This season, the 26-year-old completed 68% of his throws for 2,903 passing yards and 18 passing touchdowns in 15 games. As a runner, he racked up 630 yards and 14 scores on the ground.
Hurts is a dynamic dual-threat signal caller who plays with tremendous poise. The Eagles team will get a boost with their QB and captain back on the field. This contest against the Packers is a rematch of a Week 1 showdown in Brazil. Philadelphia secured a 34-29 victory over Green Bay, and Hurts played well in that game. He finished with 278 passing yards with two passing touchdowns.
Even though Hurts has missed two weeks, Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata both said that Hurts was "sharp" during practice. That is what you want to hear with the postseason on the horizon.
