It has been a great last week for Philadelphia Eagles star defender Jalen Carter when it comes to how the defender has handled off-the-field concerns. There has been a well-covered level of angst around Carter's personal foul penalties and self-inflicted mistakes. However, the pass rusher owned these mistakes earlier this week and spoke about the need for both himself and teammates to continue to improve when it comes to self-inflicted mistakes.

Leading up to another eye-catching comment from Carter, Eagles reporter Elio Shorr-Parks spoke with the star about not only his own potential but fellow Georgia alum Jordan Davis, who has gotten off to a red-hot start.

"“Right now what you’re seeing is just a snippet of it…the more we learn, the more we work on our technique, you’re gonna see us be great”"

The idea that we haven't seen the best of Carter and Davis is truly an enticing thought for Philly fans. Just this season, both players have made game-winning plays coming up clutch when it mattered most. Thinking about what a better version of either defender might look like quickly puts Davis in elite territory and puts Carter in the discussion for the league's best defender.

Eagles Star Jalen Carter Hints at Brighter Future for Philly's Star Linemen

It is important to note that this is the opinion of an understandably confident star and should be taken with a grain of salt. However, Carter does make a fair point that technique is an ever-improving trait for young players, leaving room for both defenders to improve over the next 2-3 years with the Eagles.

For the league's youngest defense, it is yet another sign of a possible dynasty built around incredible talent in the trenches on both sides of the ball. This is in large part credit to GM Howie Roseman, who continues to find ways to reinvent the roster and find surprise contributors. There are a few decision-makers who inspire such a high level of confidence, and both Carter and Davis serve as examples of why.

If there is one downside to Carter's comments, it is the unfortunate fact that Davis isn't under contract long term. This is the fourth year of his rookie deal, with the fifth-year option already being picked up for the 2026 season. Creating a sense of urgency to find a path to getting a long-term deal done.

Regardless, it is a great problem to have an exciting message to Eagles fans who could use a level of positivity after a week full of drama surrounding the offense. Carter's last week of comments unquestionably has left fans feeling more confident not only with the potential ceiling in the years to come, but improving maturity and accountability that seemed to be the final pieces holding the defender back from true greatness.
