The Philadelphia Eagles have been the most active team at the trade deadline so far, pulling off three moves to address depth and quality on the defensive end. After bringing in Michael Carter II and Jaire Alexander to boost their defense, the Eagles gave up a third-round pick to trade for Jaelan Phillips of the Miami Dolphins. And while Phillips is expected to make the biggest on-field impact of the three, his off-field impact could be just as important.

Since the team desperately needed more quality pass rushers, Phillips will surely make his presence felt on the field. He has been playing well all season, recording three sacks in his last five games. He could be the defensive playmaker to generate consistent pressure that the Eagles have lacked all season.

Perhaps as important as his on-field impact, however, will be Phillips' contributions off the field. The Eagles' season has been defined by locker room drama and tensions among players and the coaching staff. Phillips' track record in Miami suggests that he will provide the Eagles a big boost on that front as well.

Jaelan Phillips Will Lead by Example in Philadelphia

Since his departure was announced this morning, Dolphins fans and reporters flocked to social media to praise Phillips for everything he has done for the community in his 4.5 years in Miami. Dolphins insider Joe Schad revealed that the 26-year-old defender was "nominated on multiple occasions as Dolphins Good Guy finalist," started his own foundation, which is committed to volunteering in the community, and was "heavily involved with Lotus House shelter for homeless women and children."

Dolphins on SI's Alain Poupart added to this list of impressive community work, saying that Phillips is "on the Board of Directors for the Dolphins Cancer Challenge," and was the team's Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee. All of these recognitions for his off-field efforts highlight the respect Phillips has gotten over the years, not only as a player, but also as a community leader.

The vibes in the Eagles' locker room haven't been optimal this season. The offense, taking some time to click, has taken its toll on the players, most notably AJ Brown. There is consistent speculation about tensions between Brown and other offensive stars, including with the offensive coordinator, Kevin Patullo.

Perhaps this is a natural result of having too many high-profile, well-paid superstars on your team. The Eagles obviously made it a priority to address things by bringing Brandon Graham back from retirement. The Phillips acquisition can be seen from the same perspective: the Eagles hoping that a player who has proven himself on and off the field, and who can lead by example, will help turn things around after the bye week.
