The Philadelphia Eagles are set at several positions ahead of training camp, which opens this week. The defending champions either return key pieces from last year's Super Bowl team or bring in new faces through free agency and the draft to plug holes where needed.
While there is every reason for the vibes to be sky high once Philadelphia's 90-man roster reconvenes for the opening of camp, one member of the Eagles Super Bowl championship team who made his home on the offensive side of the ball is still searching for a job and is feeling a completely different range of emotions with the calendar approaching August.
Former Eagles TE C.J. Uzomah Still Unemployed Entering Training Camp
C.J. Uzomah joined the Eagles on a one-year deal before the 2024 season, but an abdominal injury cut his season short after just seven appearances. While Uzomah did start three of those games, he was not targeted with a single pass by All-Pro quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Uzomah's value to Philadelphia came as a blocker, and that certainly aided Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts in rushing the football. However, there just wasn't a spot for the veteran on the roster as we enter the 2025 campaign with him not being a threat to catch the ball. Uzomah has been targeted just 271 times over his 10-year NFL career. It didn't make sense for Howie Roseman and the front office to allocate money there when it could be used elsewhere on the roster.
With expectations higher than ever entering the 2025 campaign, the pressure is on Nick Sirianni and the coaching staff to get this Eagles team to put its best foot forward from the start of training camp through the end of the season, whenever that may come.
For Uzomah, time will only tell when and where his next opportunity in the NFL comes from. While a reunion in Philadelphia is unlikely, there are other teams out there that could use a blocking tight end on the line.
