Former Eagles QB Heads to Yet Another Team in Latest Prediction
It isn't a secret that Carson Wentz's NFL career has been a rollercoaster ever since he left the City of Brotherly Love three years ago.
Wentz, who was drafted second overall in 2016, went from being the starting quarterback and an MVP candidate during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles to playing for a different franchise in each of the last four seasons. His latest venture took him to the Kansas City Chiefs, where he's currently Patrick Mahomes' backup.
While all signs point to Wentz enjoying his time with the Chiefs, it looks like he could potentially wind up on yet another different roster in the offseason.
Eagles Rumors: Vikings to Target Carson Wentz in Free Agency?
Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department revealed a series of offseason predictions on Monday, including one regarding Wentz. According to the publication, the Minnesota Vikings are one team that could potentially be interested in the 31-year-old gunslinger's services.
With Sam Darnold potentially leaving in free agency, Bleacher Report cites Wentz as a logical mentor for second-year QB J.J. McCarthy.
"Carson Wentz may seem like an odd candidate to fill that role, but there are a couple of reasons why he would make sense," Bleacher Report wrote. "For one, he spent the 2022 season with Sean McVay and the Rams. Kevin O'Connell is a McVay disciple, so Wentz would likely enter the building with some system familiarity."
"Secondly, the soon-to-be 32-year-old shouldn't be a threat to McCarthy. He's firmly in the backup stage of his career and can focus on teaching the young signal-caller."
When it comes to potential mentors for McCarthy, Wentz certainly has one of the better resumes of the available offseason options. The ex-North Dakota State QB has racked up over 22,000 passing yards with 153 touchdowns (to 67 interceptions) across 93 career starts and has championship experience from winning the Super Bowl with the Eagles nearly a decade ago.
Even though he won't compete for MVP awards anymore, Wentz still has value even four years removed from his Eagles tenure. If he's willing to take McCarthy under his wing and guide him down the right career path, the Vikings should be all over that move.
The 2025 NFL free agency signing period will begin on Wednesday, March 12 at 4 p.m. ET.
