There are only so many quarterback jobs to go around in the NFL and it is immensely harder to break back into that club once you are on the outside looking in.
One former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback is learning that lesson in real time as he is without a job now that OTAs and minicamps are behind us and training camps are on the horizon.
The former fourth-round pick only joined the Eagles during the latter stages of the 2024 season following injury issues with Jalen Hurts and, then, backup QB Kenny Pickett. Now, the veteran is scrambling to find a job, and his options are quite limited.
Former Eagles QB Book Gifted Non-NFL Option if He Remains Unsigned
Even though his professional career hasn't been anything to write home about after being the No. 133 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, former Notre Dame Fighting Irish standout Ian Book is still looking to find a home to continue his professional football career. That could lead him to a franchise he never expected to suit up for.
Earlier this week, the nine teams that make up the Canadian Football League released their negotiating lists, and Book found himself among the players chosen by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
What does this mean for Book? Absolutely nothing, if he isn't interested in pursuing a football career in the CFL. However, if that is an option he is willing to consider, should no NFL teams come calling between now and the first week of September, the Blue Bombers would hold exclusive rights to negotiate a deal with the veteran quarterback.
Several players have parlayed success in the CFL into an NFL contract over the years. It isn't always an easy thing to do but, if he has no other options and wants to keep playing the game he's loved since he was a child, Book has been gifted that opportunity by Winnipeg.
