Former Philadelphia Eagles defender Ndamukong Suh is officially entering the next chapter after a heartfelt retirement post on Saturday. While the veteran hasn't played since his 2022 season with the Eagles, there hasn't been an official end to his career. There were questions whether or not the veteran could find one last landing spot in a depth role.
However, those can now be put to bed with Suh officially announcing his retirement and stepping away from the game. While the veteran's time in Philly is limited, the announcement resonates based on the ties to Suh's personal life. A ferocious defender on the field gave a glimpse behind the curtain.
Part of the veteran's decision is tied to the passing of his father, who encouraged the accomplished veteran it was time to move on. Suh has taken this advice and made his retirement official after spending time in free agency. The lineman will retire as a Super Bowl champion with the 2021 Tampa Bay Bucs and as an important piece of recent league history. The defender was a part of many iconic moments that will continue to be a part of highlight reels.

It’s the day I said goodbye to my father, the man who raised me, shaped me, challenged me, and believed in me before I believed in myself.
He wasn’t just a dad. He was my idol, my coach, and my anchor.
He taught me what it meant to… pic.twitter.com/WkefQaDrsQ
Suh retires with an incredible 71.5 sacks, a number that is impressive due to the difficulty of getting to the quarterback on the inside. The totality of the numbers helps tell the story of the veteran's impact dating back to his early days with the Detroit Lions. While Suh didn't help the Eagles accomplish the ultimate goal, it was still a pivotal season that served as a turning point for what would be an eventual Super Bowl run.
Appreciating his limited contributions to Philly, as well as what he meant to the league is the appropriate response. It will be interesting to see how the next chapter of the veteran's career plays out as he walks away from the game. For the Eagles, the defensive interior continues to be a strong point of the roster, all built around former Georgia stalwarts Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter. While there isn't a place on the roster for Suh, it will be interesting to see if the veteran has any interest in continuing his career in other areas.
Whether it is coaching lower levels of the game or looking to help defensive linemen at this level. Suh's retirement doesn't close the book on the former defender whose talent will continue to open doors.
