The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles are preparing to return to the City of Brotherly Love for training camp in a few weeks. The Eagles will begin the process of trying to repeat as Super Bowl champs, which will not be easy given the changes they underwent this offseason.

Philadelphia saw countless players leave the organization in free agency. However, the Eagles’ brass hopes that the new guys they brought in will fill those roles.

At the same time, several former Eagles players are currently unsigned and waiting for a team to call them for a workout. The two most notable Eagles are quarterback Carson Wentz and cornerback James Bradberry.

Neither Wentz nor Bradberry has received much interest in the free agent market, but the hope is that things will pick up during the first week or so in training camp.

Ex-Eagles CB Rasul Douglas Still Unsigned Weeks Before Training Camp Starts

However, Bradberry isn't the only former Eagles defensive back in wait-and-see mode. Rasul Douglas is still available even though he had a solid 2024 season with the Buffalo Bills. Douglas spent the first three years of his career in Philadelphia before playing for several different teams.

The 29-year-old cornerback just wrapped up his second season with the Bills. The ex-Eagle had 58 combined tackles, five tackles for loss, five pass deflections, and a forced fumble across 15 games.

Douglas isn’t your prototypical shutdown corner on the outside. However, he has the size and ball skills to be one of the better CB2/3s in the NFL, especially if there’s a Pro Bowl caliber cornerback on the opposite side of the field.

The 6-foot-2, 209-pound cornerback wasn’t spectacular in coverage, allowing four touchdowns and a 122.0 pass rating allowed when targeted.

But in a league that’s becoming more pass-heavy, you’ll live with that, especially if that corner can create some turnover opportunities. Douglas didn’t do that last season in Buffalo, but he had four interceptions in his first season with the Bills.

Douglas’ PFF grades didn’t do him any justice either (58.9 coverage grade – 129th among 222 cornerbacks). However, that doesn’t mean he’s a bad cornerback by any stretch. Throughout his NFL career, Douglas has 17 interceptions and a 93.2 pass rating allowed when targeted.

As we sit weeks before free agency, a few teams could use Douglas’ services, but the Eagles aren’t one of those teams. Philadelphia has Quinyon Mitchell slotted in as CB1, with Cooper DeJean holding down the nickel spot. Now, the CB2 spot is not settled yet, but Philadelphia likely wants to see what happens between Kelee Ringo and Adoree Jackson.

That said, all is not lost for the ex-Eagles cornerback. Even though he’ll be 30 years old at the end of August, Douglas should find his way on a roster before Week 1 as teams cut down their roster to 53 players.
