Former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Nicholas Morrow is heading back to Buffalo as the Bills announced on Tuesday that they signed him and placed linebacker Baylon Spector on injured reserve. The ex-Eagle will be the backup to 24-year-old Joe Andreessen at the same linebacker spot.

NFL News: Bills Sign LB Nicholas Morrow

The 29-year-old Morrow appeared in 11 games with the Bills before the team cut him earlier this month. The veteran linebacker signed a one-year deal with the Bills in March after spending last season with the Eagles.

Morrow has recorded only three total tackles, playing predominantly on special teams (65% of snaps) this season in Buffalo.

Last season with the Eagles, Morrow started in 12 out of 15 games as Philadelphia desperately needed linebacker help with Nakobe Dean injured. The veteran linebacker was all over the field, posting 95 combined tackles, 12 tackles for loss, five pass deflections, five QB hits, three sacks, and two fumble recoveries.

However, Morrow wasn’t the best in pass coverage, boasting a 104.6 passer rating allowed when targeted and gave up three receiving touchdowns. But he was better than Shaquille Leonard, who looked like a shelf of his former self in Sean Desai's scheme.

Nonetheless, the Bills don’t need him to start or be a three-down linebacker, which helps hide deficiencies in pass coverage.

Before latching on with the Bills in the offseason and spending last season with the Eagles, the veteran defender played a year with the Chicago Bears and three years with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Morrow joined the Raiders as an undrafted free agent following the 2017 NFL Draft. The 29-year-old defender has become more of a journeyman over the last few years of his pro football career. But to his credit, Morrow has shown that he can start when called upon or playing special teams.
