The third and final week of the NFL preseason is upon us, which means hundreds of players will be fighting for spots on the 53-man roster across the league. The Philadelphia Eagles will finish their preseason slate on Friday night against the New York Jets.

Several players on the Eagles are currently fighting to make their case on why they should be on the team when Week 1 rolls around, including an undrafted free-agent wide receiver, who has created a lot of buzz.

Speaking of wide receivers, a former Eagle who joined an NFC East rival earlier this offseason is looking for a new job after getting kicked to the curb on Friday.

Ex-Eagles WR Zach Pascal Gets Shown the Door by New York Giants

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, former Eagles veteran receiver Zach Pascal was among several players released by the New York Giants.

The 30-year-old wide receiver signed a one-year deal worth $1.42 million with the Giants at the beginning of free agency in March after spending the previous two years in Arizona. Pascal was looking to crack a New York WR room that doesn’t have much talent past Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Jaylin Hyatt.

Pascal’s direct competition for a job was Beaux Collins (UDFA), Ihmir Smith-Marsette, Lil’Jordan Humphrey, Montrell Washington, etc. However, Pascal in the end couldn’t beat those guys out to stick on the 53-man roster.

The veteran wide receiver posted two receptions (three targets) for 21 yards in New York’s final preseason game. Overall, for the preseason, Pascal finished with five receptions (six targets) for 57 yards.

Given his NFL experience, it won’t be surprising if the ex-Eagle finds a new opportunity in the coming days as teams cut their rosters down to 53 players. Pascal has seen his production decrease over the last three years, which includes his lone season in Philadelphia (2022).

During the 2022 season, the veteran pass catcher had a pedestrian 15 receptions (19 targets) for 150 yards and a touchdown across 15 games. In fact, he spent the majority of his playing time on special teams (54%) compared to offense (29%).

The ability to play special teams could work in Pascal’s favor to get on another team’s roster or practice squad before Week 1. Nonetheless, it's still somewhat surprising that he was one of the first cuts from a Giants’ WR room that has a lot of unknowns after the top-4.
