With the first week of preseason games in the book, some NFL teams are beginning to make changes to their 90-man roster. All teams must cut their rosters down to 53 players by the end of the month, so the pressure is on rookies and veterans on the bubble to play well over the next few weeks.
The Philadelphia Eagles haven’t made any changes to their roster after last week’s preseason opener against the Cincinnati Bengals. However, they did acquire cornerback Jakorian Bennett from the Las Vegas Raiders before the opener, giving them more competition at CB2.
While all this is happening, several former Eagles are trying to do their best to make their case on why they should be on a roster when September rolls around. One ex-Eagles wideout had his opportunity cut short this summer due to an injury.
The Cardinals terminated the contract today of WR Quez Watkins from injured reserve with an injury settlement.

Former Eagles WR Quez Watkins Sent Packing by Arizona Cardinals
According to Sunday’s transaction wire, the Arizona Cardinals terminated the contract of former Eagles wide receiver Quez Watkins from injured reserve with a settlement.
The 27-year-old receiver joined the Cards in January on a futures contract after spending the 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Watkins was placed on injured reserve earlier this month with an undisclosed injury.
The former Eagles wide receiver hasn’t played in a regular-season game since 2023. He spent four years in the City of Brotherly Love, appearing in 49 games. Watkins’ best season with the Birds happened in 2021, which was his second year in the league.
The former sixth-round draft pick racked up 43 receptions (62 targets) for 647 yards and a touchdown.
Watkins struggled to replicate his 2021 season as Eagles fans hoped he could become a big-play threat in the offense with his speed. Watkins saw his Philly tenure end following the 2023 season as the Eagles did not re-sign him.
However, the ex-Eagle didn’t have to go far in his next opportunity as he joined the Pittsburgh Steelers. Watkins failed to make the 53-man roster out of camp, but they re-signed him to the practice squad.
It will be interesting to see if the ex-Eagle wideout can find a new opportunity once he gets healthy. Watkins has the speed to take the top off the defense. But the question is, can he put it all together?
