With Week 2 of the preseason wrapping up, teams and players alike are looking ahead to the final week of preseason, which is pivotal for rookies and fringe vets trying to make the 53-man roster.

For the Philadelphia Eagles, who are coming off a lackluster performance against the Cleveland Browns on Saturday, the preseason finale next week will be important for several players on the bubble.

However, the same thing can be said for multiple former Eagles players. This offseason, we saw a host of former players take their talents to different teams, including one who joined an NFC East rival after getting released by the Carolina Panthers earlier in the offseason.

Veteran running back Miles Sanders has struggled to recapture the promise he’s shown early in his career with the Eagles. Sanders was a disappointment in Carolina, but was gifted a perfect opportunity with the Dallas Cowboys.

Former Eagles RB Miles Sanders Is on Thin Ice with Dallas Cowboys

The veteran running back had a terrible showing in Dallas’ second preseason game on Saturday, putting himself in a precarious position heading into the final week of exhibition games.

The veteran running back missed the opener due to a knee injury, but returned to practice this past week, clearing the way for his debut. With fellow veteran Javonte Williams not playing, and rookie Jaydon Blue likely to make the Cowboys’ 53-man, Sanders had a chance to stake his claim as the RB3.

However, the ex-Eagle’s statline wasn’t pretty as he had a dismal 15 yards on seven carries, which led Dallas by the way. Sanders’ longest run was for seven yards, so if you take one carry away along with that yardage, his YPC looks even worse.

Cowboys fans on social media weren’t too pleased with the ex-Eagle’s performance and are already calling for him to get cut. The former Eagles running back has reportedly done well in training camp, but the fact that he couldn’t duplicate that with Dallas’ starting offense is a bit concerning.

Since he’s on a one-year deal, the Cowboys aren’t guaranteed to keep Sanders, especially since they have rookie Phil Mafah, Deuce Vaughn, and Malik Davis. Mafah and Vaughn are competing for the RB3 spot.

Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see if the former Eagles running back plays in Dallas’ finale against the Atlanta Falcons.

Based on what the ex-Eagle did against Baltimore, he likely needs to show more to earn his spot. And then if Sanders still can’t stack any positive plays together, he could find himself looking for a job in the coming weeks when rosters get cut down to 53 players.
