The Philadelphia Eagles used a first-round pick on former University of Southern California standout Nelson Agholor in the 2015 NFL Draft, and as we all remember, the wide receiver did not come close to living up to the expectations the franchise had for him.

Fast forward to today, and Agholor is one of the more well-known wide receivers remaining on the free agent market. However, a move by the Jacksonville Jaguars may have just made finding a new home within the league that much more difficult for Agholor.

With Gabe Davis being released on Wednesday, he becomes a much more desirable option for teams looking for a receiving threat that can stretch the field. Elite athleticism like Agholor's can help you get your foot into the door of the NFL, but what you do on the field is what will ultimately keep you employed.

Nelson Agholor May Have Trouble Landing Job After Gabe Davis Release

During his tenure in Philadelphia, Agholor showed more promise than production as his athleticism was on display at all times, but that didn't translate into success bringing in the football. In his five seasons with the Eagles, which included 62 games in which he was part of the starting lineup, Agholor caught less than 60% of the targets that came his way.

No matter how great of an athlete you are, if you cannot be depended upon to be a reliable receiver, then you are going to be more of a hindrance to your team than an asset. That is ultimately the decision the franchise came to with regard to Agholor, as Philadelphia allowed him to walk as a free agent following the 2019 season.

Only time will tell whether or not Agholor is able to latch on with another team after less than spectacular runs with the Las Vegas Raiders, New England Patriots, and Baltimore Ravens, in addition to the Eagles.
