Eagles vs. Packers Opening Odds Suggest Clear Advantage in NFC Wild Card Round
By Joe Summers
The Eagles officially have their first-round matchup in the playoffs set, as they'll host the Green Bay Packers in Philadelphia. Opening odds are out for the Wild Card matchup and it's obvious that Nick Sirianni's group is expected to advance to the NFC Divisional Round.
After losing by two points to the Vikings in Week 17, the Packers melted down against the Bears in another two-point defeat to fall to the No. 7 seed in the conference. QB Jordan Love suffered an injury but is thought to be okay, though the Eagles are facing a team going in the wrong direction at the worst time.
Provided that Jalen Hurts isn't feeling lingering effects from his own injury, this is a contest Philly should win if they're legitimate Super Bowl contenders.
Eagles vs. Packers Odds Give Edge to Philadelphia
*odds via FanDuel Sportsbook
- Spread: Eagles -3.5 (-115) | Packers +3.5 (-105)
- Moneyline: Eagles (-205) | Packers (+176)
- Total: 46.5 (Over -110) | Under (-110)
These squads played in Week 1 with the Eagles prevailing 34-29 and a spread favoring Philadelphia by two. Love and Christian Watson's perspective injuries, as well as Green Bay's struggles in recent weeks, likely tilted things in the Eagles' favor even without mentioning that their starters will have a rest advantage.
Preventing Saquon Barkley from chasing the rushing record was a controversial decision at the time but it appears to have been the correct one. The Packers will enter the game after a physical contest that left the quarterback and a starting receiver injured, while the Eagles will be rested.
Philadelphia is 7-2 against the spread (ATS) over their last nine games. Green Bay is 5-1 in that stretch, yet is still at a disadvantage given the circumstances. If the Eagles are serious about winning another Lombardi Trophy, this is a contest in which they can prove their mettle. The Packers fell to the Bears, after all, so how embarrassing would it be to fall short against this underwhelming No. 7 seed?
After leading the NFL in opponent yards per play (4.8), the rebuilt defense has a chance to shine. Expect Philadelphia to look sharper than a struggling Green Bay unit en route to a victory that could foreshadow a special few weeks for the organization.
