Eagles Veteran Reveals Big Free Agency Mistake Ahead of Week 7 Clash
By Cem Yolbulan
The Philadelphia Eagles take on the New York Giants on Sunday in their first NFC East game of the season. Division games are obviously the most important games on the regular-season schedule but this one has an even more special meaning for one Eagles veteran.
Tight end Jack Stoll signed with the Giants in the offseason after three seasons in Philadelphia. He was a restricted free agent and the Eagles did not tender him, leading Stoll to sign a one-year, $1.1 million deal with New York. Before the roster cutdown deadline, however, the Giants released him and Stoll immediately signed to the Eagles practice squad.
Olivia Reiner of the Philadelphia Inquirer spoke to Stoll ahead of the clash against the Giants. Expressing his regret for the decision to leave Philly in free agency, the 26-year-old is determined to prove the Giants wrong.
Saying that he should have never left the Eagles, Stoll added that he thought the Eagles would eventually offer him a deal. Instead, when GM Howie Roseman told him, "We'll see what happens", he took that as the Eagles not wanting him. So, he signed with the Giants.
"And I’ll say this: one thing is Howie [Roseman]’s always been truthful to me. He’s always shot it straight with me. So that’s another thing I probably took for granted, is just having someone like that who is honest. I started looking into a little bit of the wrong things, and it was probably a little bit [more] of an emotional decision than what it should’ve been."
- Eagles TE Jack Stoll
Stoll has been elevated to the active roster and played in three games for the Eagles already. In 74 offensive snaps and 33 special teams snaps, Stoll provides veteran competence and solid depth to the roster. Whether he will get enough of a chance to prove the Giants wrong in Week 7 remains to be seen.
