The league-wide deadline to trim rosters down to 53 players came and went on Tuesday afternoon with a flurry of moves that saw veterans and young players being informed of their release.
While the Philadelphia Eagles were one of the teams to participate in that effort on Tuesday, they have continued making roster moves on Wednesday morning, with their latest decision being to part ways with a member of the 2024 draft class.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com, Philadelphia has elected to release second-year offensive guard Trevor Keegan after the former fifth-round draft pick won a Super Bowl championship with the Eagles this past season.
A late release: Eagles are waiving guard Trevor Keegan, who won a Super Bowl last season during his rookie year after he was Philadelphia’s fifth-round pick. Keegan is expected to be on waivers Thursday.

Eagles Unexpectedly Cut Trevor Keegan the Day After Roster Deadline
Unfortunately, injuries have been an issue for Keegan since he entered the league before the 2024 season. The former University of Michigan standout was inactive for 16 of Philadelphia's 17 regular-season games before making his season debut during the final weekend of the campaign.
Now, not only does the 24-year-old need to find a new home within the league, and fast, but Philadelphia has an open roster spot it can use to add a player at a position of its choosing. For Eagles fans in Schefter's replies, the overwhelming sentiment is that Keegan is a solid player who was caught up in a situation where he simply wasn't going to see regular playing time.
Those injury issues crept into the preseason schedule for the Eagles as Keegan dealt with a back injury, which may have truly been the nail in the coffin for this particular o-lineman. Being unavailable on the practice field is typically a bad sign when it leads to games missed as well.
This was precisely the case in Keegan's first, and only, season with the Eagles, as he was inactive for every game but the team's Week 17 matchup against the New York Giants, when he saw 35 snaps as part of the offensive line and five more snaps as part of the special teams unit.
This type of versatility will only help Keegan's odds of finding his next job in the NFL, but it could also wind up being a big selling point for other free agents out there looking for the right fit for their careers as it moves forward.
