The Philadelphia Eagles made a move right before the season started and acquired Tank Bigsby. On Sept. 8, Philadelphia traded 2026 fifth and sixth-round picks to the Jaguars in exchange for Bigsby.
They believed they were getting another depth weapon in the backfield and a capable kickoff returner, but it's been the complete opposite. And Bigsby got benched in the Week 6 contest against the New York Giants.
According to Zach Berman of The Athletic, Philadelphia pulled Bigsby from kick returns and replaced him with A.J. Dillon instead.
Tank Bigsby Got Benched Versus New York Giants
This comes after Bigbsy muffed a kick return at the end of the first half and got tackled inside the 10-yard line. This has been the trend all season long for him. In the Week 3 win over the Los Angeles Rams, Bigsby also muffed multiple kickoffs, consistently putting the Eagles' offense in bad field position.
Since that continued into Week 6, the Eagles decided to put Dillon back there in place of him. If fans just search Bigsby's name on X and they'll see countless posts bashing Bigsby. Some fans are calling it general manager Howie Roseman's worst trade ever.
While emotions are very high at the moment, it doesn't look good for this move. In his first practice with Philadelphia, Bigsby also fumbled a kickoff return, but many people brushed it off. Unfortunately, that was some foreshadowing of what was to come.
Who knows how the Eagles move forward with him, but there's a good chance he doesn't return a kick for them again. He hasn't shown the ability to be productive back there, and he's not utilized at all as an option in the backfield.
Entering Week 6, Bigsby has played a whopping zero offensive snaps. That's a clear indication of how the coaching staff feels about him, and it isn't in a positive light. The Eagles were looking for a spark in the return game and believed they were getting that with Bigsby. Instead, that move looks like a miss for this team and only creates another area that needs improvement.
Coming into 2025, Bigsby had 314 kickoff return yards with the Jaguars. In three years, he only had 11 total return attempts, and it's become very obvious that he needed more reps back there.
His Week 6 performance was massively underwhelming and he ended the game on the bench.
