One of the most talked-about position battles throughout training camp and preseason this summer for the Philadelphia Eagles was the CB2 position. After deciding not to re-sign Darius Slay and Isaiah Rodgers Sr., the Eagles brought in Adoree’ Jackson on a one-year deal to compete against Kelee Ringo.

Jackson or Ringo separated themselves in the CB2 competition leading up to the Eagles’ first preseason game, which forced Philadelphia to trade for Jakorian Bennett from the Las Vegas Raiders.

Despite the flashes that Bennett showed in the final two preseason games, the Eagles made it somewhat known that Jackson could start in Week 1, as he was among the starters who didn’t play in the preseason finale.

On Sunday, the Eagles returned to the NovaCare Complex in preparation for their home opener against the Dallas Cowboys. And Jackson was reportedly working with the starting CBs in individual workouts, per Jeff Kerr of CBSSports.com.

As you can imagine, Eagles fans weren’t exactly thrilled to see that Jackson was working with the starters, especially since he didn’t do much in the preseason to show that he can hold down the other side of the field.

When speaking with reporters on Sunday, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni gave his thoughts on the veteran and what he brings to the field.

“He's always in the hip pocket of guys and close to the catch point. I also think he has a good knack for the football. ...He has the ability to shadow receivers, and we'll need that this week against a really good receiver corps, Sirianni said (h/t Zach Berman of The Athletic).

Again, fans on social media weren’t enthusiastic about Sirianni’s comments. They hope that Bennett will eventually take over the CB2 spot at some point this season.

However, Jackson can buy himself some more time as Philly’s starting CB if he can play well against the Cowboys on Thursday night.

The Cowboys have two good receivers in CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, who do different things on the field that will test Jackson and Mitchell. Last season, when Jackson faced Dallas as a member of the Giants in Week 13, he allowed three completions on nine targets for 33 yards and a touchdown.

According to Pro Football Focus, Jackson had a 64.5 coverage grade (ranked 79th among 222 qualified cornerbacks).

It’s not a great grade by any means. However, the Eagles hope Jackson can keep guys in front of him and not allow the big play, which Dallas will likely test a few times on Thursday night.
