Eagles Steal Top Free Agent From Commanders in Latest Offseason Prediction
By Cem Yolbulan
Eagles fans are laser-focused on extending their eight-game winning streak and securing a first-round bye in the playoffs, but many around the league have already started thinking about the offseason. Bleacher Report just published an article about each team's needs and their potential moves in the offseason. They identified pass rush as the biggest weakness on the roster and predicted that the team will address that in free agency.
The player they had in mind for the Eagles was former Cowboy and current Washington Commander, Dante Fowler.
Considering the potential retirement of Brandon Graham, and the impending free agency of Josh Sweat, the Eagles will almost certainly need to add more impactful defenders on the edge. Fowler, in the midst of his career season, would be a worthy addition.
"Graham is expected to retire at the end of the year, and Josh Sweat is an impending free agent. While Nolan Smith could take over as the starter moving forward, the defense could still use some pass-rush help."
- Bleacher Report
Fowler signed with the Commanders in the 2024 offseason, following his defensive coordinator Dan Quinn after he was hired as the head coach in Washington. He has thrived on his new team. Through 13 games, he has 8.5 sacks, 10 QB hits, and 11 tackles for loss. He also recorded one interception, one forced fumble, and a touchdown for the season.
The 30-year-old has certainly played himself into a big payday. GM Howie Roseman has shown a lack of willingness to pay players on the wrong side of 30. At the same time, the Eagles need to add more talent in one of the most important positions in football. What the front office decides to do will be fascinating to watch for Eagles fans.
