Eagles Stars Shockingly Snubbed From Pro Bowl Roster
By Jovan Alford
The NFL announced the AFC and NFC rosters for the 2025 Pro Bowl Games on Thursday and the Philadelphia Eagles were well represented with six players. The six guys chosen for the Pro Bowl Games were LB Zack Baun, RB Saquon Barkley, C Cam Jurgens, LT Lane Johnson, LG Landon Dickerson, and DT Jalen Carter.
For Baun, Carter, and Jurgens, this is their first Pro Bowl selection in their careers. While it was great to see the Eagles get six players into the games, Philly fans were shocked that star wide receiver A.J. Brown and standout left tackle Jordan Mailata weren’t selected.
Brown and Mailata, rookie cornerback Quinyon Mitchell, and veteran pass rusher Josh Sweat are the Eagles’ first Pro Bowl alternates, per Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia. If a player drops out due to injury or the Super Bowl, these players will take those spots.
However, you could make a solid case for Brown, Mailata, and Mitchell to be named to the Pro Bowl roster. Mailata is one of the best offensive tackles in football. He and Johnson have helped this Eagles’ rushing offense be the best in the NFL.
The 27-year-old left tackle has only been penalized five times and allowed one sack across 801 snaps played, which is impressive given he missed some time due to injury.
According to PFF, he’s the highest-graded tackle at 95.8 (out of 138 tackles). Mailata also has a stellar pass block (91.7) and run blocking grade (94.9).
Those grades are better than Penei Sewell’s (87.5 overall grade, 72.9 pass block, and 90.9 run block), who has also been penalized the same amount of times. The same can be said for Bucs tackle Tristan Wirfs.
Wirfs’ overall grade is 84, but his pass block is slightly better (93.2). Mailata has him beat in run blocking (68.5). He hasn’t allowed a sack this season but has been penalized eight times.
As for Brown, the star wide receiver was sidelined by injury for a few games, which doesn’t help his case to make the Pro Bowl Games. However, Brown still had 67 receptions (97 targets) for 1,079 yards and seven touchdowns in a run-first offense.
That said, it would be tough for Brown to make it in the NFC, given the year we’ve seen from Vikings WR Justin Jefferson (100 recs for 1,479 yards and 10 TDs), Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (109 recs for 1,186 yards and 12 TDs), Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb (101 recs for 1,194 yards and six TDs), and Commanders WR Terry McLaurin (74 receptions for 1,034 yards and 12 TDs).
Nevertheless, Eagles fans will hope the snubbed players aren’t too worried about the Pro Bowl as they would rather want them playing in the Super Bowl next month in New Orleans.
