The Philadelphia Eagles are gearing up for the NFC Championship game on Sunday as they take on the Washington Commanders to return to the Super Bowl.

The massively important game has an even larger meaning for some Eagles players. Star cornerback Darius Slay just revealed ahead of Sunday that he is preparing this game to be his last home game at Lincoln Financial Field. Per NBC Sports Philadelphia's Ashlyn Sullivan, the veteran defender is contemplating retirement after the season but adds that it wouldn't be with the Eagles even if he were to play another season.

Darius Slay Reveals He Could Be Playing His Final Game in Philadelphia

The 34-year-old cornerback has had an illustrious NFL career. Since being a second-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, Slay made six Pro Bowls, one first-team All-Pro, and led the league in interceptions for a season. In his 12 seasons in the league, he has started 167 games and made the playoffs six times. A Super Bowl win has eluded him so far in his career, but he is hoping to change that this postseason.

What is remarkable about Slay's career is the fact that he has shown little decline in his game as he approaches his mid-30s. That is seriously uncommon for cornerbacks in the NFL, highlighting Slay's commitment and dedication to his craft.

Sullivan reported that Slay is 85% leaning towards playing another season. He is under contract with the Eagles for another season, but the team's financial restraints make it difficult for them to bring him back. Cutting Slay with a post-June 1 designation would free up over $20 million in salary cap between 2025 and 2026.

This makes it likely that Slay will be a cap casualty this offseason. The best parting gift for him would be a final home win on Sunday, followed by the Lombardi Trophy.
