The Philadelphia Eagles are using the next couple of weeks to rest up before coming back for training camp. There was movement along the roster this offseason, which saw some veterans leave town, so this period will be nice for guys to reset before gearing up for a title defense.

Tight end Dallas Goedert almost joined the parade of departed vets after being floated in trade talks. However, he was able to agree to a restructured deal that will pay him $10 million in 2025, with the chance to earn $1 million more in incentives.

Goedert revealed that quarterback Jalen Hurts reached out to him during his contract talks, and the star made him feel like an "important part of the team."

Goedert added, "Playing with a QB that you’re comfortable with was also important to me. Someone that values you just makes that even better."

Jalen Hurts Contacted Dallas Goedert During Contract Dispute

Hurts reaching out to Goedert when it was uncertain if he was going to return to the team speaks volumes. Those two have built a great relationship over the last five years, and he made it a priority to tell Goedert how important he was.

Back in May, Goedert said, "There were definitely days that were filled with emotion. Just kind of sat on the couch and stared at the TV blankly like, ‘What's going to happen?’”

GM Howie Roseman is known for shaking the team around and isn't afraid to part ways with anyone. It makes sense why Goedert was unsure, but the conversations with Hurts helped calm some nerves.

The 30-year-old did make it clear that he wanted to stick around, but knew things were up in the air.

"There were a lot of emotions that went on through the offseason. Not sure if you're going to be here, not sure if you're not. There were the sad emotions of leaving. There was the excitement of a change, seeing something different. And it just kind of went back and forth and I just kind of balanced those."

Nonetheless, the South Dakota State product is thrilled to be back in the city of Brotherly Love for another season and is ready to hit the ground running in July.
