The Philadelphia Eagles are working toward finalizing their 53-man roster for the start of the regular season.
The home opener against the Dallas Cowboys will be here before fans know it, which is why Howie Roseman and the front office are continuing to make moves to ensure they are finding the right fits for this team in its quest to repeat as Super Bowl champions.
One way Philadelphia is doing just that is by taking a chance on a recent NFL Draft pick who was highly productive as a college player but has been bitten hard by the injury bug since turning pro. Fortunately for the former sixth-round pick, a former coach of his is now on the Eagles staff and knows the type of player that linebacker Chance Campbell can be when healthy.

Eagles Sign Veteran LB Chance Campbell Ahead of Preseason Finale
Philadelphia's Bobby King was the linebackers coach with the Tennessee Titans when the franchise drafted Campbell out of Ole Miss. Now, he makes his home in the City of Brotherly Love and is bringing a piece from his time in Music City back to join him in the NFC East.
The Eagles are without Nakobe Dean while he recovers from a torn patellar tendon. The addition of Campbell provides the team with added depth in the linebacker room for the remainder of training camp and the preseason schedule. This in no way guarantees Campbell a spot on the roster; however, he must go out and prove he is worthy of a roster spot in Philadelphia.
Campbell's numbers with the Titans were nothing to write home about. After being placed on the Injured Reserve during his rookie season, he recorded just three total tackles over four games played during the 2023 campaign. He went on to miss the 2024 season with a torn ACL. This is a signing based more on potential promise than realized production.
In his final season of college ball, Campbell transferred from the University of Maryland to the always competitive SEC and turned in the best year of his career. The newest Eagle defender racked up 110 total tackles, six sacks, 13 tackles for a loss, four forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries in 13 games. That type of production against that level of competition cannot be ignored.
Now, Campbell will have another opportunity to show that he is still the player who took the SEC by storm during the 2021 season. If he can, it will be interesting to see where he could fit on this roster moving forward.
