The Philadelphia Eagles have every reason to believe that the franchise can defend its 2024 championship run. Every important piece from last season has been retained, or key free agents have been brought in as replacements. Philly wasn't content sitting back and enjoying the benefits of being the defending champs. It is clear the franchise wants to turn this into a long window of Super Bowl contention and is doing everything in its power to make this happen. With this in mind, Washington's latest move shouldn't concern fans despite the splashy name value of the Commanders' most recent addition.
One of the few remaining noteworthy free agents came off the board late Wednesday night with the Washington Commanders signing defender Von Miller. This might be a concern for the Dallas Cowboys or other playoff contenders; however, it isn't a move that changes the perspective of Philly. The Eagles played Jayden Daniels and the Commanders twice last season with Jalen Hurts in the starting lineup. Both games, Philly finished and proved to be the better unit. Adding one of the league's most accomplished pass rushers is impressive, but the 36-year-old doesn't move the needle enough to scare the Eagles.
The Eagles Shouldn't be Concerned with the Commanders' Splashy New Addition
In his prime, Miller had an argument as the best player in the league, impacting the game at a level that has rarely been seen. This deserves respect and carries incredible value, bringing onto any roster. Washington signing the former star unquestionably makes the team better and gives them hope of making yet another surprise run.
Still, an aging version of Miller isn't the needle mover that he has been in seasons past. There is a reason both the Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills were willing to move on in recent years. It is clear that age has caught up to the star, and his value is going to be in short bursts, and bringing veteran leadership to young rosters.
For Philly, there is still every advantage needed when you compare rosters and consider who the superior option might be. There isn't anyone in the league this unit should be scared of right now, and signing an aging star isn't changing this fact.
