The Philadelphia Eagles have been teasing changes this week after back-to-back losses against the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears. The bulk of this change isn't focused on one side of the ball, with Philly NBC's John Clark reporting that head coach Nick Sirianni offered the following sentiment: “We’re evaluating everything. We’ll think about some different things that we want to do. All over the place. Scheme, everything.”
It is a telling sentiment that suggests the head coach is open to every possibility, and this should include giving playmaker Tank Bigsby the chance to make a bigger impact. There hasn't been any secret about the level of frustration with Saquon Barkley, who is averaging less than four yards a carry and is often bottled up. Backup running back Will Shipley hasn't been wildly impressive either in what limited attempts the back has been given.
Leading us to Bigsby, who The Philly Special Show's Anthony DiBona noted "averages 9.1 yards per carry with the Eagles, which is by far the highest YPC among running backs with 15+ carries in 2025." This is a telling stat, and yet the Eagles haven't handed the ball to Bigsby but once in the last two games of the season.
Eagles Must Give Tank Bigsby a Chance to Make an Impact as Philly Searches for Answers
If all options are truly on the table, it is time to move a bit away from Barkley and attempt to breathe life into the run game with your depth. In truth, it seems most plausible that a vanilla offense and poor blocking are to blame for Barkley's 2025 implosion rather than any loss of talent. Building on this, it stands to reason that more reps for Bigsby might expose the same issues you've seen displayed from Barkley over the last weeks of the season.
If all options are truly being considered, there is no downside to incorporating Bigsby more against the Los Angeles Chargers to see if the backup can breathe life into the rushing attack. This should be Philly's adjustment, along with a dedication to getting up on the ball faster and running the hurry-up offense fans saw work at the end of a loss to Chicago.
Neither adjustment would be difficult; even struggling offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo should be able to figure out both changes and hope that this alters the current level of struggles the offense is mired in.
Bigsby has at least earned a look based on how explosive the back has been and the need to generate some level of consistent rushing. Philly should give the back a chance in the next two weeks against the Chargers and Raiders.
