The Philadelphia Eagles officially kicked off training camp as they held their first practice at the NovaCare Complex in South Philadelphia. With only 1.5 months left before the Eagles take the first snap of the 2025 NFL season, the coaching staff is making decisions to best set the team up for the final stretch of the summer. This includes making the necessary cuts and additions to optimize camp intensity and competition.

On Wednesday, it was a recently signed rookie offensive lineman who got the short end of the stick. Marcus Tate, who signed with the Eagles on June 2, was just released on the first day of training camp. Per Eagles insider Jeff McLane, Tate was already injured to begin camp.

Eagles Released Rookie Offensive Lineman They Signed in June

The 6-foot-5, 321-pound offensive lineman had participated in the Eagles' Rookie Camp in the spring and signed a deal after impressing during his time there. He has had an impressive 37 starts as a Clemson Tiger, including starting the season opener as a freshman in 2021. He finished at Clemson as one of 28 players in school history to play more than 2,500 career snaps from scrimmage.

This is an unfortunate development for the 23-year-old, who spent most of his time at left guard at college. Suffering an ill-timed injury that prevents an opportunity to impress the coaches is certainly unlucky, but this is to be expected at this stage of the offseason.

The back end of the training camp roster is a bit of a revolving door, with teams cycling through players to try to find hidden gems. Ones that show flashes during their stint can later end up on the practice squad or be on the speed dial for teams in cases of emergency. Whether Tate falls under that category for the Eagles or another team remains to be seen.
