The Philadelphia Eagles opened the 2025 preseason on Thursday night against the Cincinnati Bengals at Lincoln Financial Field. It was the first chance for fans to get an early look at some of the new faces wearing midnight green, which included the 2025 draft class.
The Eagles had an outstanding draft earlier this year, which primarily focused on adding pieces at all three levels of the defense, who will hopefully be contributors on a defense that lost many veterans in the offseason.
Fans got a chance to see most of the draft picks play on Thursday night against the Bengals, but there was one who immediately stood out – Ty Robinson.
The fourth-round pick out of Nebraska could become a rotational player rather quickly in Vic Fangio’s scheme, given the depth at the position.
Eagles Rookie DT Ty Robinson Emerges in First Preseason Game
In his first NFL preseason game, the rookie defensive lineman showed off those skills as he sacked Bengals quarterback Jake Browning in the second quarter.

Coming out of Nebraska, Robinson was known for his quickness off the ball, hustle, burst off the snap, and ability to play multiple techniques across the defensive line. His ability to play different techniques sounds very similar to Milton Williams, when he came out of Louisiana Tech.
Williams wasn't the prototypical DT, but had the size and skills to be used across the formation, which we saw go to another level last year under Fangio.
In Robinson's six-year career at Nebraska, he racked up 134 combined tackles, 27 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, 12 pass deflections, and a forced fumble.
If the Eagles see more of that in camp, but also in the remaining preseason games, there’s no reason to think that the rookie defensive tackle will not get more playing time in the regular season.
If you look at the Eagles’ current defensive tackle room, Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, and Moro Ojomo were listed as starters/first-team guys on the initial depth chart. Meanwhile, Robinson, Thomas Booker, and Byron Young were listed as the second-team DTs.
Booker is out of the picture as he was sent to the Raiders in the Jakorian Bennett trade, and Young is still unproven after being placed on injured reserve last season. Therefore, Robinson figures to be the next guy up in the defensive tackle rotation and could become a draft day steal like we saw with Jalyx Hunt.
