The Philadelphia Eagles have reportedly pulled off another trade for a well-known veteran, as Howie Roseman has upgraded what has quickly turned into an area of need for the defending champions.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com, the Eagles have agreed to send fifth and sixth-round picks in the 2026 draft to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for veteran running back Tank Bigsby. With a rib injury to Will Shipley raising concerns about the depth behind All-Pro RB Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia wasted no time in acquiring Bigsby from Jacksonville.
With Bigsby's addition to the roster and no additional information available regarding Shipley's health, there isn't a player in the running back room not named Barkley who feels safe in their spot, given the other moves made by the Eagles.
Eagles' Trade For Tank Bigsby Could Mean Shipley's Injury Will Linger
For Roseman to give up a pair of picks in next year's draft to acquire Bigsby now, Philadelphia's front office and coaching staff must feel that he is the type of player who can make a significant impact on the offense as Barkley's primary backup. If that type of role isn't what the Eagles envisioned for Bigsby as motivation for making this deal, it would make very little sense to give away that much draft capital to the Jaguars to complete the trade.
To put it bluntly, this trade only amplifies any concerns there may be about the injury suffered by Shipley. Before leaving the field in Philadelphia's regular-season opener, the former Clemson standout showed just how dangerous he can be in the open field. With 26 yards on three touches, the second-year running back showed why the Eagles thought as highly of him as they did in the 2024 draft.
Now, however, Shipley looks to be destined for RB3 duties, at best, as Bigsby is a proven commodity at the NFL level at the age of 23. In 34 appearances during his time with the Jaguars, the former Auburn Tigers star carried the ball 223 times for 910 yards and nine touchdowns. Once he gets up to speed in Philadelphia, fans can expect Bigsby to help shoulder some of the load that otherwise would have fallen on Barkley.
