The Philadelphia Eagles wrapped up their preseason on Friday night with a 19-17 win over the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. With less than two weeks left before the season opener for the Eagles, this game was obviously less about the scoreline but more about the individual performances. These performances will presumably be the last data point for head coach Nick Sirianni and the staff before making their final decisions on the 53-man roster.

For one rookie, it wasn't the showing he had in mind to make his case to be included in the roster. Philadelphia's sixth-round pick, QB Kyle McCord, struggled immensely against the Jets despite playing every offensive snap. The rookie out of Syracuse went 15/35 for 136 yards, an interception, and a 42.1 passer rating. This, unfortunately, likely sealed his fate before the roster cutdown date.

Eagles QB Kyle McCord Will Likely Not Make Roster After Performance vs. Jets

For the 22-year-old signal-caller, Friday night wasn't too different from how the rest of his preseason had gone. McCord played in all three games and finished with 24-for-56 for 191 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions, and a 43.1 passer rating.

That isn't to say that McCord doesn't have a future in the league as a quarterback. In fact, he had a couple of solid moments in the game, throwing nice passes to John Metchie III and Ben VanSumeren. He also had to deal with his pass-catchers dropping catchable throws on multiple occasions. Yet, his bad moments were unfortunately more often than his good ones. The interception he threw on the deep ball to Darius Cooper was especially problematic.

What gives McCord some hope is that Dorian Thompson-Robinson has probably been worse than him all preseason, and Tanner McKee is dealing with a finger injury. If McKee's injury is somewhat serious or if Sirianni wants to bring in three QBs to the roster, McCord could still have a chance to make the final roster.

At the end of the day, the Eagles will hopefully not rely on any of their backup quarterbacks next season, especially the third-stringers. Yet, the fans probably wanted to see more from their rookie QB throughout the preseason. Whether McCord is cut and signs elsewhere, or lands back on the Eagles' practice squad, it's hard to see him challenging for the QB2 role anywhere around the NFL any time soon.
